Bad Mommy?

Monday, June 28, 2010

Clyde is big into chewing just about anything he can sink his teeth into, especially if I have made a stink over him doing so. When I told the vet this she suggested these C.E.T. chewies. They are fully digestable and they work on them for a while and it wears them out.

Well, needless to say, Clyde LOVES them. Danny and I actually wonder if this is the same thing as putting your child in front of the television?

I felt kind of bad...but not really.

Because then we snuggled...

And pal-ed around

Anybody else like these for their dog?

They are actually pretty good for dogs. I worked for a vet for 5 years and while we discouraged any artificially derived chews (we preferred people give their pets raw carrots, but...that doesn't work for everyone - just definitely stay away from rawhide chews, those are SO bad) but the CET chews are the most digestible. And actually it's really good to give them something to keep from chewing up valuables. Dogs are work oriented, so if they have something to keep them busy they are far better behaved. Another idea is the Kong toy, you can stuff it with bits of dog food or biscuits, and they have to 'work' to get it out.

Our Aussie is a year old and he still prefers to chew on things. We go through one of those huge disgusting pig hip/knuckle bones every few weeks but it keeps him from chewing up water hoses, kids toys, etc!

I have never heard of them, but Abby loves it when I put fat free yogurt into a bone (or you could use a Kong, but she doesn't really like them) and then freeze it. She will go at it for a while until the yogurt is all gone. I tried peanut butter once also, but she gained some weight, so the vet suggested the yogurt.

And you are not a bad mommy! He just needs something to play with!

Ohmygosh, that last picture is TOO CUTE! He's adorable!

We have four dogs (I KNOW). Two of them love to play with chews and toys and two of them are usually disinterested. But the two that love to chew more than make up for them!

You are not a bad mommy at all!!! My motto as a mommy is "whatever works" especially with a newborn/puppy. You have an idea in your mind how things will go but then realize some of it is out of your control since the little one has a mind of its own too. :) You are doing great!

Ok, this cracked me up! We do the same thing with Rookie when people come over so he won't drive them crazy! ha ha.

Dax chewed a lot too when he was little, so we gave him Flips. They are raw hide bones that he goes nuts over. I know he can only have so many a day and they are great for cleaning his teeth. No bad breath for our dog!

PS You holding Clyde is so stinkin cute!

Just found your blog and love it!

It’s so funny because you’re Julianne and I’m Juliana. I also have 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They really are wonderful animals. We have a Blenheim (Chase, boy) and a Ruby (Mandy, girl).

Clyde is really adorable!

Great move! The other great thing about the CET chews is that they are made with special enzymes to help clean their teeth. But I have found with my pups that they don't last long, so I like to use regular rawhides too.
