Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. I still have not caught up on sleep from being back at school a full week. 5:30AM comes WAY too early each morning.

2. We spent the weekend at the beach to celebrate my first full week back. Isn't it funny how weekends away just end up leaving your more exhausted?

3. Really hoping to start our savings plan this month. Save enough each month to be able to pay for the kitchen remodel (our LAST remodel for this house) by next Summer and buy a new air conditioner next August.

4. I'm loving these shelves from Pottery Barn. I think I would use them for beside the china cabinet in the dining area. Wouldn't it be fun to stack them with pictures, candles, plates, pretty glassware, etc.?

5. Fifth's Disease is going around our classroom. I came down with quite a cold this past weekend and I am hoping I do not catch the bug.

6. I am possibly having 10 people to my little home for Thanksgiving. I'm thrilled. It is going to be lots of fun and we will pray for good weather. We will need to get creative on how to make Thanksgiving in a toaster oven :)

7. It's time for bed. Isn't it sad that I probably go to bed before my 8 year old students?

Overwhelmed

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

I started to write this post and I coudln't quite find the words...in a nut shell:

Clyde was at the vet last week overnight from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon. Apparently he ate something that upset his stomach and he was unable to keep food down. At such a young age (6 months) this was very serious. They had him hooked up to IVs and fluid running through him for two days. Needless to say, we all are exhausted and ready for life to get back to normal.

I can't begin to tell you how I never thought this was how it was going to be raising a puppy. I have re-thought all of my ideas on having children and pushed them back even further from when I thought they would be. I may NEVER have babies if this is how difficult it will be. The stress just does me in.

School is back in full swing, and with Danny working so far from home I am the only one who can go home and feed/take out/play with Clyde. It is not an easy job! We have done some Doggy Day Care which I always thought was CRAZY, but I now know how much of a break it really is.

Thank you for your prayers and concerns over the last week. We are working hard to get into a routine and keep everyone healthy and happy!

Office Redo Reveal

Saturday, August 21, 2010

We finally got the curtains and pillows done for this room so I thought I would show off it's nearly finished look.

We started with this desk from Ballard that I love, mostly because it closes up and hides all the clutter inside!

Then, we got the loveseat on sale at a consignment store. The room had a pretty "brown" palatte and I knew I had to bring in some pops of color. I went out of my comfort zone (red tones), and picked blues and greens. I did a ticking stripe in green, with the welt ticking in blue for the pillows and the table cover.

The best part about that table cover is that it hides our cat's litter box!

Here is a look at the space between the desk and couch. It is a smaller room for sure but serves its' purpose.

I kept my handmade chalkboard on the wall next to the desk. I bought liquid chalk pens and love how easy they are to use!

Here is a up-close picture of the window treatment. I love the design and colors, especially that cute ticking stripe to anchor it.

Of course, my favorite piece in the room is this cute embroidered pillow of my furry baby, Clyde. How sweet is he? My parents picked him up in North Carolina on a trip this summer.

There you have it. I need to find some art work for the walls, or hang our diplomas. I just haven't decided if those would work with the feel of the room. Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

What I'm Loving!

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

I got this idea from Rachel who got it from This Kind of Love . It is such a cute idea that I had to join in!

I'm loving: My new babies in third grade. They are so sweet. I was able to move up with my class form teaching 2nd last year and I truly believe they are going to forever be my "special ones" now that I get to have them two years in a row!

I'm loving: Coke Zero around 1:00 in the PM!

I'm Loving: My Clyde'ster' who seems to be feeling all better! (let's hope that is here to stay).

I'm Loving: My hubby who FINALLY turns 25 this Friday :)

I'm Loving: That I will be laying on the beach on Saturday...all day...relaxing and enjoying the sun and good friends.

I'm Loving: A schedule. My summers are very fun and nonchalant, but I strive on structure.

Hope you all are enjoying your week!

Timing

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

I feel like timing has really been OFF my side lately! I got back to school full time tomorrow and this little man

ate something he shouldn't have and has been very sick for the last few days. Last night he had a saline injection, x-rays, and he is on medication every 8 hours. Needless to say, I am glad that we are not having surgery. But, really!? NOW!? I am really struggling with this dog. I love him with every beat of my heart but he has been one problem after another. Please pray for me this week--pray for healing for the little man and a calming over my heart and mind.

Bathroom Reveal!

Saturday, August 14, 2010

We are so happy to have finished our second (and last) bathroom in this house! We did it for $600 and it looks great! EDIT: This took about 4 days, but we did hire someone to install the tile for us.

This is the best before picture I could find:

We replaced the vanity and toilet and installed new tile. The toilet was $200, high performance Kohler. The vanity is very modern, but I plan to replace those knobs with some cute red ones from Anthropologie...like these. EDIT: Both the vanity and the toilet were purchased at Home Depot! They had a great selection of each.

The vanity was $200 as well and included the sink!

Here is a look at the sink top...not exactly what I would pick (square) but it works and it was within the budget!

The floor tile was by far my most favorite bargain. A local tile store was having a BLOW out sale and all the tile for this bath (which is not big as you can tell) was a grand total of $18. The grout was $8!

So, with labor included, we came in right around $600 and I am very happy with the results. The blue wall tile stays and now that everything is nice and new, I actually do not mind it! Hope you all are having a great weeekend.

NOLA!

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

I had a fabulous time in New Orleans with all my good girlfriends. Not everyone was able to make it, but it turned out to be a great group. Half of us know Ryan from undergrad and half knew her from law school.

Here is all of us in the park.

This is Ryan and Emily at her lingerie party. They are beautiful sisters! Emily gets married in February, four months after Ry. We are so excited to be a part of both their weddings as they are beautiful girls inside and out...not to mention that they are marrying WONDERFUL men!

And, just for fun, the first night (very late at a voodoo shop...don't ask) we picked up three candles to light during her shower. They meant, "passion, creativity, and protection". Pretty funny and truly something I will never forget!

We went and had snowballs (snowcones) and they were incredible. This is Jess and I with Debbie who is in charge of the stand--she was on the Food Network! They put homemade condensed milk on top and LORD HAVE MERCY was it worth it!

Here is Jess and I at dinner one night, just another wonderful friend!

It was so nice to spend my last weekend of freedom with these girls. They are so much fun and mean so much to me. We rarely all get together like this (without the hubbies).

I am going to take a little blogging break this week because we are going BACK TO SCHOOL! I can't believe the summer is over and I am teaching again. WOW! I'm excited, but also completely overwhelmed. So, I will see you when I resurface!

New Orleans Bound

Monday, August 2, 2010

I'm off to New Orleans this week and through the weekend for my best friend's Bachelorette weekend. We are staying in a BEAUTIFUL hotel in the French Quarter and are going to be soaking up the sun, exploring the city, and enjoying dinner and drinks. I can't wait! Her fiance is from there so this is a special place for her.

Until I come back, here a few (appropriate) pictures from my Bachelorette two years ago:
