Growing a Green Thumb

Monday, May 24, 2010

I am really growing to love gardening, and this is the time of year where everything is in full bloom and it is hard not to love it!

For my birthday, my brother gave me a hibiscus tree. I love it. It has the most beautiful blooms on it! The braided trunk is a neat touch.

I put a small pot in between the chairs outside to add some color. I think it turned out cute. The pot was on sale for $7 at Target! Got to love that huge red bullseye.

We planted Plumgado under our windows on either side of the house. It will grow into a nice bush with pretty blue flowers. It will also be nice not to have to look at that hose any more too!

This is my "bed" as I like to call it. I told my husband I wanted one area where I could change out the flowers every so often. The bushes in the back will stay (forget their name), but for now I have planted zinnia in front. I look forward to changing it out through the seasons!

Here is the big picture--right side of the yard. Yes, I found Crepe Mertyl trees! YEAH! I love them...they are just about to bloom pretty light pink flowers.

We edged out the beds with African Iris. They will grow much bigger, but for now they will look sparse until they fill in. We bought all white, at least we think...fingers crossed until they bloom.

Here is the left side. In that large empty bed we plan to have a snake pit. Just kidding, we are going to plant roses, but all the stores were out of the type we like. Back to the snake pit idea, I can't tell you how many we have seen lately. It makes me want to puke. I can't stand them ya'll...all that slithering...ugh!

I have my first hydrangea bloom of the season! I am so excited. They are just the most beautiful flower, cut and on the bush.

My entire hydrangea garden. The other plants include Stargazers (purple bushes), petunias, and white annuals.

Wishin' and Hopin' and Dreamin'...

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I am looking forward to summer and all my free time. What I am not looking forward to is being on the same budget and having too much time on my hands...you know what I mean?!

My favorite designer for home things is Mackenzie Childs. Her things are pricey, so I only get them for special occasions. Lately, she came out with a garden themed set which is beautiful. I love this oversized wastebin that could sit by the door for umbrellas, etc.

My birthday present for my husband's family is crepe mertyl trees! I am so excited because these will be beautiful in out backyard and they are my most favorite flowering tree.

All the garden centers have been out of them, but they came in today. Off I go!

I also really want to read the new Beth Moore book. I have heard so many great things about this book.

Is anyone interested in doing a book swap? I think it would be so much fun to trade books around. Shipping wouldn't be as expensive as buying the book!

Have a great Wednesday!

Just a Funk

Monday, May 17, 2010

I have been in a writing/blogging funk lately! I just can't find the time or energy to write a post this week. We have exactly 7 and a half days of school left and all my time and energy is devoted to school. With report cards, parties, and Clyde we are just booked. Hope you all understand that I will be a little MIA for the next week!

Have a great week!

Hints of Clyde

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

I have started collecting things for Clyde here and there, with the help of family and friends.

TOYS! He will be a happy puppy that is for sure. Lots of squeakers and kongs.

Blankets galore! This isn't even all of them. We have blankies for the crate, blankies for the bed, and blankies for drying off!

I got him some delicious puppy food, and how cute are those little red bowls!? I love them so much and they match our decor, how perfect.

Of course, I had to include this picture. This is his bed with a lovely sister-to-be already hijacking it! I keep telling her, "Lola...that is not your bed!"

I have so much more to get and set up--more pictures to come! We pick him up Friday the 28th!

Quarter-Century Celebration

Monday, May 10, 2010

I officially turned 25 on Sunday. I got to share the holiday with my mom, so we went to dinner Saturday night and celebrated.

Me and the hubs

Cute parents

My parents got us new patio furniture for my birthday. These babies bend backwards, forwards, and have a shade that comes up over top. Lovely! The pillows are too cute as well.

They also helped decorate the patio by giving us this beautiful arrangement...I just love potted plants!

While I was in Atlanta, my grandmother gave me some seeds to plant Morning Glories. I just planted mine about a week ago and they are already popping up! I can't wait for them to turn into the beautiful flowers they are supposed to be.

Have a great week!

Big Kids in a Baby Pool

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

This would be an embarrassing picture to post, if it hadn't been 95 degrees on Sunday! Honestly, can you imagine anything better? Pool filled with cool water and pina coladas to boot! I'm thinking about round two this weekend.

Yes, that whale hooks up to the hose and spouts water..everywhere!

Just try to keep cool out there...you do what you have to do!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Sunday, May 2, 2010

It was another very successful weekend! We pick Clyde up to come home with us on the 29th, so we are getting the yard ready for him. We did relax a bit too.

On Saturday we went downtown to watch the Dragon Boat races. Many teams from around the state get together to race for their cause. It quite competitive and really fun to watch.

This structure was made out of metal and had moss dripping from it...very lie like!

Here is one of the races. My husband's parents had a friend in the race. Her team did great, but of course was beaten by one of the gyms in the area. Not fair...right?

We are planting a bed at a time, so this weekend we got the hydrangea and these little bushes with their pretty purple flowers. Everything should grow in quite a bit. I am really looking forward to having beautiful hydrangea blossoms this summer!

My bougainvillea is looking great! I can't wait for the day that is covers this entire ugly side of the shed.

I planted this vine a long time ago. My mom rooted it for me back in the Fall. It must love summer time, because it is shooting up like a rocket these days!

It has also started to bloom!

Finally, I woke up this morning to find my first gardenia blossom of the year!! I am SO excited! I have been waiting for these to blossom for weeks. Lots of buds all over our 3 bushes, but this is the first one we have seen. The smell is incredible.

Can't wait for the whole bush to be covered in them. I hope you all had a nice weekend as well!
