Puppy Love

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

So the hubs and I have been talking a lot about a puppy lately. We decided on a breed and me, being the impulsive person I am, decided NOW was a good time to start looking.

Well, I found a GREAT breeder, right around the corner, and guess what ya'll, she has 7 puppies right now!! 7!! And 6 are the tri-color we like :) Oh man, they will be ready for Valentine's Day--is your facial expression just full of love and shock right now! MINE IS!

Look at these cute babies...

Not the color, but just way too cute not to show...

And the most perfect baby..ever...

My only hesitation is that we both work and it worries me to leave him alone right off the bat. What do you think? Anyone gotten a puppy while they were working? I mean, people do it, I am sure! Right???

I did and he turned out great... except he likes to eat cat poop (you'll get this if you read my last post) BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU CRATE HIM/HER! Otherwise, you may have some things to replace like shoes, carpets, floors... you get it :)

my husband and I ended up getting a puppy and it didn't go well for us. We had a lot of guilt leaving him during the day. BUT, his problem was that he didn't like other people. He was scared of them. We got him when he was 16 weeks though, so that was his problem. Anyway, all of that to say that you should totally go for it! We just had a bad experience :( We'll go for a different bread next time. Those dogs are precious! Fill us in on your decision!

OH girl, we are talking about a puppy too!! Mollie Kate would be more than thrilled! What a perfect Valentine's day gift! I wouldn't know about what you would do while you were gone to work other than like a kennel in the house or in the garage? I can't wait to see what you do!

Came here from LMM - these dogs are GREAT! Cavalier King Charles spaniel, right? I worked for a Veterinarian for 5+ years, and every one of these that came in was just a doll. You can make working and puppy training work - definitely crate train and realize that puppies can't stay crated an 8 hr day, so you may have to clean some messes in a confined area for 6 months or so, until their bladder is big enough to handle being crated for long periods of time. It can work! Just make the time you have with puppy while you're home count. :) And, socialize, socialize, socialize - or you'll have a nightmare. Take the puppy TO work if possible, take the puppy to the neighbors, let kids play with the puppy, take the puppy a LOT of places when you can. The more they interact with people in a positive way, the happier everyone will be in the long run. Good luck!

Oh it would be hard without being there all day. Have you considered getting one a little older and already potty trained. It would make the whole process so much simpler. They really are a joy. My "princess" is laying on my lap right now as matter of fact:)

Ha!!!!! Been there, and done that...

:)

But really, my brother and his wife work all day and they recently got a little wiener dog. (I have to say wiener dog because it makes me giggle that by big strong police officer brother got a himself a wiener dog...) Anyway- they left it right away during the day and their dog did just fine. I think they had a week or so off for vacation but he's great.

We are home with our puppy and I couldn't have seen leaving her because she had to go potty every three hours like clockwork. Even sooner in the very beginning... maybe it depends on the breed but I say go for it! Great training for kids. (wink)
